In this Tech Tuesday talk, Dr. Julie Perino discussed a troubling finding from her dissertation research into the ways that students write on computers. One key finding that supports other research into students' digital composing practices was that students spend almost as much time line editing their writing as they do writing when working on computers. Perino attributes this to the colors and animations associated with spelling and grammar checkers.

In this Tech Tuesday talk, Perino discussed the ramifications of students' over-reliance on spelling and grammar checkers during their generative writing processes. This led to a lively discussion of ways to help students control their word processing tools instead of being controlled by them.
